Black Thought – TwoFifteen

This song employs religious metaphor’s to describe how the church and artist’s grandfather supported him growing up. He discusses how materialistic purchases punctuate his life and have such a profound, almost religious impact on American life. He uses allusion and hyperbole to show how respect and fear operate within modern societies forcing individuals to make regular decisions which are harder and have higher costs for the poor and destitute. His focus is on his personal story and beliefs; not the politics of the ‘rap game’ as this leads to in fighting not progress. He is very critical of America.
