Issues include; racism, bias by the justice system and police, over-representation of African Americans incarcerated, drug and alcohol problems. Many of the issues highlighted are still prevalent today. You can also make comparisons to the oppression faced by African Americans to other minoritized or indigenous peoples in other countries, including New Zealand and Maori. The artist also encourages the need for change and the importance of the victims needing to be part of that change.
