In his song Lowkey asks what really defines terrorism and whether the official narratives found on the mass media can be trusted. Through rhetorical questioning and mockery he implies that we (the west) are hypocrites and have not asked this question of ourselves properly and that the military industrial complex and media along with vested interests in the political system define terror to suit their own agenda and hijack the will of the people in the process. He states that America’s hegemony of the middle East is closer to terrorism than many of the ‘terrorists’ they claim to attack. He alludes to the struggle between Israel and Palestine and how this is firstly a war of words and rhetoric. This song questions the epistemology which justifies war as well as the ontological structures which stop us from questioning what we are told by the media. He demonstrates this through the way we prioritize our own culture over others through our use of racist language which underpins Islamophobia and an ethnocentric world view. He also mentions the many democratically elected leaders the ‘West’ has overthrown with illegal coups or pressure because they would not obey their rules and sell out their people, such as, Vietnam, The Congo, Iran, Venezuela, and Mandela in South Africa – all wrongly labeled Terrorists.
