This song addresses X’s existential crisis’s which feature in much of his music. He uses allusion and metaphors to describe a meeting with the devil/ grim reaper, the outcome of which will be his death. The song addresses issues such as suicidal thoughts, mental health, self-harm, the will to live, and realizing too late that you do in fact want to continue living as you have found some new value in your life. He also questions what happens when we die and whether there is any purpose in life, or if there is a god, and if there is what his role in life is. He starts out with a nihilistic opinion of life but when he is attacked wants to fight to survive. At the outset of his career X wanted to sell himself out for material success but in this song describes his epiphany and desire for more than money and fame.
